  Parents FAQ -Frequently Asked Questions

Who are the people in charge, and what are their qualifications? Both the Director and the Head Counselor are certified teachers with over 40 combined years of camp experience.

Is the camp accredited? Young people's Day Camp of Nassau is accredited by the American Camping Association (ACA). Camps accredited by the ACA must adhere to very strict standards in many areas, such as adequate health care, program, staff and transportation.

Is the camp insured? Absolutely - each camper is covered through our medical and liability insurance.

Is the camp licensed? Yes- the licensing agency is the Nassau County Health Department, which visits us several times during the summer to ensure that we are in compliance.

Are medical personal available? Young People's of Nassau always has EMT's and CPR certified personal on the premises. A registered nurse and/or a doctor are always on call.

Who are the counselors? Our counselors are mostly college students and teachers. All of our counselors are people who are either known to us as former campers, or individuals who have been recommended and have impeccable credentials.

How do the children get to camp? The campers are transported by buses, which are driven by professional, certified bus drivers.. While many camps lease buses and have the counselors drive them, Young People's of Nassau believes that it is much safer to leave the driving to the professionals.

How do I pay for camp? Upon registration, a deposit is required. The balance is broken up into a series of payments, to make payment as comfortable as possible. There are no registration fees, interest fees, or service charges (except for a returned check fee of $10.00)

What happens if I have to get in touch with you or my child during the camp day? No problem - call 1-800-933-YPDC (this is our main office), and they'll "beep" me with your message - I'll then call you back.
